Crazy, Busy, Wild, Spiritual, Awesome, Missionary Life -- 17 December 2012

Lots to say, and only 20 minutes to say it! AHHH!!!

First, we DID get a transfer call last night. I am leaving the YSA. I dont know where, or who I will be with, or even what my new phone number will be, so don't ask. I don't know if we will have normal e-mail next Monday, either, since Christmas is on Tuesday.... So long story short, I don't know how/when we will be calling. :)

Second, thank you to everyone who sent a letter for Christmas conference! I loved every minute of it! Mom, all my comps love you and think you are the greatest comp-mom EVER! (I know, right?!)

Christmas conference was so nice! We got to watch Mr Kruger's Christmas, and we sang basically every Christmas hymn in the hymn book. So dang much fun!! Also while we were there President Collins told us our new Mission compliment number.... Right now we have 175 missionaries, 18 Sisters and 25(?) Senior missionaries. Our new compliment (that the church is going to fill as fast as possible!) is 278 with 58 SISTERS!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!!! The work of God moves forward in Indiana! The church is true! Can't wait to talk to you next week! Be all the Bee's!

Love always,

Sister Hill

Busy Week... -- 10 December 2012

And yet, not busy at all. Because we are YSA, we work on campus a lot. And as some of you know, it's finals time. Now what does that mean? It means a lot of walking for the Sisters, as everyone else runs away. (Faster than they did before. Seriously, it is so funny how fast people run away! You can almost hear them saying: "RUN! The Mormons are here to get us to join their cult!!!!")

But this week has been really good! We went on exchanges this week, and it just so happened that Sister T went up to Lafayette with Sister C, and Sister S came to the YSA with me!!!! We had a lot of fun catching up on each other and Lafayette, and how our investigators were doing. We had So. Dang. Much. Fun!

We had a lesson with one of our investigators that we are just not sure what the best thing to do for him is. So "What do you do in those situations, Sister Hill?" is what you ask. Well I will answer you. You call and invite President C to join you for a lesson. Yes, that is right, folks. President C came and taught with us. It was pretty fun! A little bit intimidating, as both he and our investigator are very intelligent people! They had a whole conversation, and Sister S and I understood the words they were saying but as to their meaning, we were totally clueless! Haha!

This morning we met with a referral (that President C had given us earlier in the week) at the mission home with him there. :) It was a really great lesson! The woman we met is a sweetheart who was recently diagnosed with MS. She is getting shots every week that make her feeling flu-like, and she absolutely HATES it. It threw me back to the past for a minute. I don't remember much of when you were diagnosed, but I remember a lady coming to the house and you giving shots to an orange. I remember you saying that you would be sick for a few days, then have a few good days, and have to start the whole thing over again.

I remember when Ash came home from S's house totally freaked out, because Mama B didn't remember Ash, and S telling her that her mom had had a really bad MS day.

I was reminded today how grateful I am for the blessing that I have a healthy mother who does normal stuff, and is not wheelchair bound, and can talk, and just be normal, even though she technically has this disease that should be debilitating. I am grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation--that I know who I am and why I am here on this earth, and I am grateful for the knowledge that those who are in pain and miserable in this life will be okay and at peace after this life, and that it's not far away. Life is very short. We are here for a specific purpose (see Alma 34:32).

We had a "Why I Believe" fireside last night. I have come to love those! I love hearing recent converts bear their testimonies on the truths that they have come to know for themselves. I love being around my brothers and sisters who have found the joy and peace that the gospel brings.

Thank you to all who have shown me that joy throughout the years! Whether you were a priesthood/YW leader, a surrogate parent, a sibling, or a friend. You have all shown me the good news of the gospel, and you are why I am out here! I love you all! Can't wait to talk to you!

Love Sister Hill!

What a Week! -- 3 December 2012

So.... This week has been pretty cool!

Monday: Birthday! Greatest day ever! Thank you all for the love you sent!

Mama: when I got home from the li-barry, there on the doorstep was a bright pink package! Super exciting! Don't worry: Sister T took lots of pictures while I was opening!

Bestest Friend: Your letter also came right on Monday and was one of my favorites. I HOPE to be hearing more from you, but I know life is super crazy.

Special thanks to all of my wonderful grandparents! The consistency of your love and encouragement has been such a blessing not only on my mission, but my whole life!

Monday night was FHE, and we made gingerbread houses. Don't worry: a member of the branch took the time to make REAL gingerbread AND put the houses all together.  All we had to do was decorate! It was so dang much fun! One of our investigators came, and he decorated one of the gingerbread men (yes, she made little men to go with the houses) as a missionary! He put a tie on it and everything! It was so cute!

Sister T, sneaky Sister mish that she is, told everyone it was my birthday, and would they sing to me at some point. So all of the sudden about an hour in the ENTIRE cultural hall is singing "Happy Birthday!" I was very red, but also very pleased!

Afterward we were talking to one of the guys who works at the totally amazing Children's Museum (that is NOT open on Mondays) and he told us that on the 17th of this month it will be open, and that he would hold some tickets for us to go!!! YAY!! I am SOO excited! We have heard that this is a super fun place to go! Plus! It's Christmas time!!! Need I say more?

Wednesday: (Yes I know I skipped Tuesday) Wednesday, we went up to the mission home to hang out with President and Sister C. and the assistants. Just kidding, we weren't hanging out, we had a campus missionary special training. We loved it, and came away totally uplifted, and REALLY ready to get to work, and apply what we learned on campus! We also all went out to lunch (about 17 missionaries).  Since Sister T. and I were the only Sisters who went we got the privilege of sitting with President and Sister C. and laugh and talk with them. I love watching the two of them interact! You can tell they are crazy about each other! I have been so blessed with so many examples of what a great marriage looks like! Thank you so much to you all! Especially Mom and Dad! You are the best, and I couldn't ask for better parents!

After the training, I went up to talk to President C. one on one. I truly love my mission president! I know you all think you have/had the best one, but I am telling you, I WIN!!! He gave me some advice that I went home and applied right away, and the remainder of this week has just flown, full of the spirit! He was called here for me! (And Indiana is the BEST Mission on the earth!)

We have done a lot of walking this week. Applying what we learned, (and also this area just struggles with commitment. Can't be that we are in a YSA area?)

I got a very sweet letter from one of my best friends on Saturday! You know who you are, and I want you to know, that this has never been a one-sided friendship! I am forever grateful for you, and all you teach me as well! And thank you for waiting for me! ;)

Today: We left the house early (after study! Stop thinking I am disobedient!) and headed to.........LUCAS OIL STADIUM!!!! We (the whole zone) had a private tour that a member in a neighboring ward paid for us to go. It was so neat! That is a really cool building! I kept thinking: "My family, especially Uncles, would be dying right now!" We stood on the 50 yard line. Went into the Colts locker room, (the guide showed us Payton Manning's exact locker!) For the most part it wasn't "big-whoop" to me and the other sisters, BUT it was SO fun to watch the Elders. They thought they had died and gone to heaven! We have one Elder in my district who is only serving an 18 month mission, because he has a contract to play football for BYU next fall. So, he was soaking everything up! :)

Lisa, I got some really great pics, so when you go scrapbook paper shopping, look for Colts stuff! :)

I love you all and hope you have a great week! I echo Elder Hill's challenge. You will be such a powerful tool in the Lord's hands if you are serving your brothers and sisters! Keep the faith! Talk to you soon!

Love, Sister Hill

Holidays -- 26 November 2012

First off: Thank you all for all of the birthday wishes!!! They have made my day!

I have been treated like a queen by Sister Tagg all day yesterday, and today! I keep thinking it's just a normal day, but she is being super EXTRA nice to me. (I say extra cause she is always nice to me!) Last night at dinner, the member who fed us remembered that it was my birthday, and they made a cake, and put 2 matches on it, and sang Happy Birthday! It was so sweet of them, and all I could think, was: "Mom, I am well taken care of. (Even if it is a singles ward)" :)

This morning while I was in the shower, Sister Tagg Made french toast for breakfast! I am a lucky Sister Missionary, I have the best companion in the mission! ... That is actually not true, I guess she is tied with all my other companions. I have just been a lucky Sister!

We don't have any super-awesome-amazing-rockin'-awesome plans for the day, but all of the birthday wishes I have received have absolutely made my day! Sister Tagg got me a button to pin on my shirt that says: "Birthday Girl" Its pink and huge, and obnoxious, but I love it!

Thanksgiving was good. I got a little homesick for the my "normal" Thanksgiving. But for the most part I was just grateful for all that I have, and that I even got to celebrate Thanksgiving.

There is a Sister in our ward who is flying to Utah right now because she is reporting to the MTC on Wednesday. She is going to the (I am going to butcher this [sorry Uncle Brant])  Nagoya, Japan Mission. We are all super excited for her, and she is going with nothing but confidence! Honestly, she reminds me of Mama Montgomery. Her "farewell" was super fun to be at.

Well folks. Christmas is just around the corner, and It is finally getting chilly here. We had a 5 second flurry of snow 3 weeks ago, but since then nothing. I am not complaining mind you. I will keep it warm as long as possible. People are predicting a bad winter this year because last year was so mild. Yuck! And I will be the designated driver (most likely, since after this transfer [when Sister Williams and Stanford go home] I will be the 4th oldest Sister Missionary in Indiana. How did that happen?!)

Anyway, They did a big celebration of turning on the Lights downtown the day after Thanksgiving. We were PCing down there and saw the dress rehearsal, and then later on our way home for the night we saw the FIREWORKS!!!! (Why doesn't Temple Square do that?!)  Anyway, I would like to come back and see that show one day. Parentals, I really think you would enjoy Indy. There is A TON to do and see, and I cute little river walk that goes through the middle of downtown that I keep seeing Daddy running on, and Mom looking at all the art!

Anyway, I love Indy, and am going to miss it when I am asked to leave, whenever that may be. I love you all, and thanks again for all of the birthday wishes!

Love always, Sister Hill

Week... -- 19 November 2012

Life is so good!!! Transfers went really well. Sister B went down to North Vernon, with Sister C, and Sister C's comp (the one who replaced me when I left) has come to Indy YSA with me! We are "kindred spirits"!!! We have not stopped talking since she got here! We laugh all of the time! Found out that she was in FCCLA too! She swam in HS. She is from Coolidge, Arizona. She graduated college in May, with her bachelor's in journalism. She has been out 3 months and 3 weeks, and is already putting me to shame! :) I am grateful for her example, and am so excited to spend the next 5 weeks with her! She is so great, she has already bought me a birthday present! (How many of you can say that?) She ratted me out in Relief Society yesterday. Those gifts are for the ward, and she told them and they wouldn't let me leave without a present!

Speaking of birthdays: On Saturday, we were driving along, and I asked what day it was, and guess what? It was the17th!!! Now every Hill should know that that date means something!

HaPpY bIrThDaY wHiTnEy AnN!!!!! (I am sorry its late!) Can you believe we are 22? Hope it was a happy day and all your dreams came true!

Well family, I hope that your Thanksgivings are wonderful! I am being taken care of here! I love you, and I will talk to you next week! Love, Love, LOVE!!!

Time of New Beginnings -- 12 November 2012

I know it isn't New Year's yet, and you may get the same subject line when January 1st rolls around, but it is transfers this week, and for a missionary, it's kinda just like New Year's.

I am not leaving the YSA, but Sister Bonner is. I am sad and slightly nervous. I can feel God is preparing me for a lot of growth in this next transfer, and that refiners fire is HOT! However with the Lord all things are possible, and I know He won't give me more than I can handle. In my Bible reading (I am not sure if I told y'all, but I plan to have the entire Bible read before I come home) I started Job yesterday, and I am telling you, it isn't a happy book.

Basically: Satan bets God that if He takes everything away from Job, that Job will turn his back on God, and Satan will win Job's heart. Well of course God knows Job's heart, and knows he wouldn't do that, but to prove it to Satan, God says: "Do what you want, just don't kill him."

.........

Now, Sister Bonner and I were talking, and being the imperfect humans we are, we were shocked, and basically said: "If we were Job and we found out God did that to us we would....."

I have had that conversation in my head since yesterday morning. What would you do if you were Job? What are things in your life that you have been called to pass through, and didn't know why? Has there ever been something in your life that other people have said: "Man, I am glad I am not them right now!"? Have you ever said that about someone else?

A scripture I found early in my mission is D&C 122:7-8. I particularly love the question posed in 8. "Art thou greater than he?" (talking of Our Savior)

Trials come. Bad things happen to good people. Life isn't fair! We can scream, and curse, and rage, and be mad, and sad, and, and, and! But in the end, what matter is the growth that has occurred. Whether you like it or not, you have grown, you will be blessed for the trials you are asked to go through. And every trial is tailor made for you. And if you endure well, those blessings (and more) are still yours!

So, here we go. On another adventure with new trials, and exciting things happening.

I love you all, and hope you are doing well! You are in my prayers! I love you very much!

With all my love,

Sister Hill

Grandpa A. -- 5 November 2012

Mom:
Grandpa A passed away peacefully (and finally) this morning at about 8:02 a.m.  It is a tremendous blessing in so many ways, and I will write you more about all of it in my letter.  I just wanted you to know.  No definite information on when the funeral will be yet, but we will be thinking of you and praying for you; and we hope you will be doing the same for us.

I love you, Sis!  Have a beautiful, blessed week.  Life is filled with joy and blessings!

Love,

Mom

Bri:
Thanks for letting me know! Are you ok?

Mom:
Yes, thank you, Love.  I’ve been over several times this week.  He’s been unconscious for days.  This morning is just a blessing.  (Don’t get me wrong, I had a good cry, but it truly is a blessing…)

Are you OK, sweetheart?

Bri:
I am sad. And relieved. And grateful. And wish I could be there to do something for you, or grandma, but I know that even if I was there, there wouldnt be much I could do anyway. I am where I need to be.

Mom:
Yes, you are.  And we are grateful for that as much as for anything else.  You’re a wonderful woman and a blessing to me.  I love you so much!

Bri:
I love you too!!! Well we are off to the Zoo. I love you! Know that you all are in my prayes and please give Gma A my love, and testimony. She has been in my prayers since this started, and I love her so much! Also Gma F. I love you!!!

6th Transfer...6th Week -- 5 November 2012

I just want you all to realize how sad I am going to be next Thursday. First: The possibility of going to transfer meeting the day before. (I won't find that out until next Monday.) Second: That is my 9 month (to the day) mark. My mission is half full..... :_(

Now. While I love you all, and I do miss you (!) I don't wanna! Things here have gone way too fast. This feels like this has always been my life, and I don't know what life will be when I am just Bri, again... Well enough about that!

This week we had Zone Conference again. May I just say, I have the greatest Mission President in the whole world!?! Dibbs! Infinity! No Battle! Shield! (And any other protective words that are used to be the best!) You could never ask for a better person in all your life! He is caring, he teaches to everyone's understanding, he cares about the individual missionary, and that missionary's area. He has got a wonderful wife (they just celebrated 40 years together this week [aw! toot pessis!]) Most importantly he has the Spirit of the Lord in great abundance with him. I am never left in any doubt when he makes a decision that it is what the Lord wants to happen. Be it who will be comps and which area or what he needs to train on the will help our mission skyrocket into being even better for the Lord. I have the BEST. MISSION. PRESIDENT. IN. THE. WHOLE. WORLD!!!!!!!

On that thought: I know this is short, (again.) I love you all! We are going on a zoo adventure today! That is right. The Indy Zoo. We have heard its better than San Diego. That is a pretty big claim to me, so we will see!

Speaking of adventures: I don't think I told you. We live a mile from the Indy Speedway. I have yet to be there, but we drive by every day. :) For those who are racecar fans. :)

Anyway. I love you all, and love hearing from you! Have a good week, and God bless!

Love always,
Sister Hill

Here It Is Again! -- 29 October 2012

Monday. How did we get here? Wasn't I just telling you about Sister B 20 minutes ago?

Well, obviously this week has gone fast. We found a new investigator this week. He is pretty cool!

We are still teaching R. I don't know if I have told you about him or not. Well, just a re-cap/very vague description: He was the first guy I taught in the YSA. He is in some anti, and likes it. He knows the BoM is true, and that JS is a prophet, but has a hard time with Pres Monson. He kinda holds himself back, but participates in everything! He drives me crazy, and I love him all at the same time! He has a baptism date, but we need to move it; but he will be baptized someday, cause he knows it's true. He just needs a solid testimony on the specfics. :)

Yeah. that is R. Please keep him in your prayers.

Life in Indiana is good. We need to run, caue I have an eye appointment to get to! ;)

I love you all, and you are in my prayers!

Love always,

-Sister Hill

Cool Weekend -- 22 October 2012

Wanna know why? We had the very neat, once in a life-time, opportunity to have the the General Relief Society President in Indiana this weekend. She invited all of the sisters (in every stake in Indiana) to come meet her. President Collins felt it, of course, was worth our time to go, and gave permission. So all 18 sisters in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission got to go meet her.

You should have seen the crowd. They set up like they would have for stake conference with 5 extra rows on the stage, and more chairs set up in the RS, the Primary, and the YW rooms. But the fun part was that it was all women!

I was having a lot of fun, mainly because I kept running into people from North Vernon! This may be a little shallow, but I loved how everyone was approaching me and telling me that they missed me, and I am welcome in their homes anytime. They all wanted to tell me of the things that were going on in their lives, and with their families. Seriously, I have made friends for life!

THEN! We had got to listen to Sister Burton! She is such a sweetheart! I absolutely love her! Her husband was there too, and It was cute to see how much more relaxed she was in our little stake house than she was in the Conference Center. She would forget what word she wanted to use, and would turn to her husband, or you could hear him prompting her from behind. You could tell that they have a wonderful relationship, and are each other's best friends!

She talked about mainly the Temple, and what we can do to prepare our families, our homes, and ourselves to attend and receive the blessings of the temple... (that is coming to Indiana [cause she was talking to the sisters who live in Indiana permenantly]) but it applies to the missionaries too!

After, if we chose to do so, we got in a line to meet her. She is a sweetheart, and Mom, I told her that if she gets a minute to come see you and tell you that I am doing great! (Not to have doubt in her or anything, but I am sure she is super busy, and that is why I am telling you now. :)  )

She also talked about being homesick, and how that is an okay thing to be/have. As missionaries I think sometimes we think that being homesick is a BAD thing, and you are a HORRIBLE missionary if you feel home sick, and you can NEVER get it right, because you feel homesick. Now while I know that is not what your mind should be focused on 24/7, IT HAPPENS!!!! There are always going to be days that you think.... "I would rather....." or "If I could call Dad/Mom..." or "I just want a Bestest Friend hug!"  I feel like that does not make me a horrible missionary. That may be what Satan wants me to think but it isn't true. Sister Burton pointed out that if we feel homesick, that is okay, because it means we have had something good in our lives. And that we have been loved and cared for, and to just FORGET, or DROP all of that is inhuman! :) (These are my words not hers, but you get what I mean.)

The main thing with homesickness that she talked about was our Heavenly homesickness. It's okay to have days where we just want to go back to God, because this life is hard! We know that in His presence we will be done with our trials, and our worrying, and our stress, and we won't have Satan breathing down our backs anymore! Man! I know that is what I want! But I am also so grateful for the opportunity I have to be living at this time! I am grateful for the family and the friends that I have. I am grateful for opportunity I have to be here in Indiana, and make new friends! I am grateful for this Gospel, I am grateful for the Plan of Salvation, so that we can be "Heavenly homesick". I am grateful for the living prophets, especially Joseph Smith and President Monson. I know that they are/were inspired men whom God has called. I am grateful for temples, and the blessings that come through them. I can't wait to back inside one! (First thing I am doing when I get off the plane, btw!)

Mostly I am grateful for my Saviour!!! Words cannot express the love I have for my Older Brother! He is my rock, and my Foundation. (Hel 5:12) I know that He lives, and that He loves each and every one of us! Trust Him!

With Lots of Love!!

Very Nice Week -- 15 October 2012

It has been a good week. On Wednesday Sister W. got her new companion and they have hit the ground running in their area. It has been a little strange to just go back to the two of us here in the YSA. (Which I know sounds crazy, as I have only ever had 1 other person with me, but we all worked our trio really well!)

The YSA is truly something to get used to. We can only tract in certain places because we are not looking for families (WEIRD). We are looking for: Young. Single. Adults. Who are under the age of 30 and don't have 2 or 3 kids (because that constitutes as a "family").

Yesterday was the best day! We have 1 o'clock church (because we are in the YSA) so we got in our full morning study. Then we had our missionary coordination meeting, then branch counsel, then Sacrament meeting started. I love sacrament meeting! And I had a blast-from-the-past moment. One of the girls who lives in the North Vernon ward comes the the Indy YSA branch! So we caught up on some people in the ward, and one of the ward missionaries who moved to Idaho at the end of the summer for school, and is S's best friend, she is getting married at the end of December, and was one of my favorite ward missionaries! Anyway that was fun!

At the end of the night we had a "Why I Believe" fireside, which, for those of you who don't know (I am not sure if these are done everywhere,) is a fireside where recent converts come and tell everyone how they found the Church, or how the Church found them (aka missionaries!). But anyway, they come and share their testimonies of the gospel. The purpose of these is to bring investigators to see that "normal" people made a huge leap of faith and are now being blessed for it! This is my second one, and it was absolutely wonderful! Sister W, Sister E (new Temple Square sister) and I were all asked to perform a musical number. We sang I Am a Child of God. It went pretty good. There was nothing but nice things said (of course, "if you can't say nothin' nice, don't say nothin' at all." right!?).  Anyway, it was just a really nice day.

I love you all! Hope you are having a good week!

Week One (Again) -- 8 October 2012

Well, here I am in downtown Indianapolis! I am serving in the Indy YSA branch! It is weird being with people my age again. Lisa, I think I have a little bit of your attitude towards drama now. I feel like I used to handle it pretty well, but I have only been here 5 days, and already I have heard more drama than I did in high school! :D  But I am really enjoying it!

I am in a temporary trio at the moment. Sister W. is staying with us, and we are covering her new area until our new TEMPLE SQUARE SISTER shows up!!!! (Ask me how excited I am!) Anyway, my comp is is Sister B. (She is the sister from Heber who knows J-H.) And Sister W. is the sister who Sister W. just finished training so she is my mission sister! So I am surrounded on all sides by friends! Actually I would be excited to serve with any sister from this mission, they are all amazing!

For letter writing, and package sending purposes, my new address is:
1618 N Whitcomb Ave.
Indianapolis, IN 46224

Love you all! And can't wait to hear from you! (Hint: Bestest Friend! (I need a bestest friend hug))

Have a good week, and I will talk you ya'll next week!

Love always!
Sister Hill

PS-Wasn't Conference AMAZING!!!! Can't wait to see what this is going to do for missionaries around the world!!! When you write me, please tell me your favorite part, favorite talk, or something you learned, or all of the above!

Official -- 1 October 2012

Well, folks. It's official. After only 6 weeks in Lafayette, Indiana, yours truly is being transferred. Where to? Only the Lord knows. And President C.....And the assistants.

Turns out that it is Sister S who will be training. (She is not super excited) Also, I don't remember if I told you, but Sister W has been in her second transfer of training in the Lafayette 2nd ward. They have been in our district, so we have gotten to hang out with them quite often. Well, turns out she is training again. In  Lafayette 2, again. Not sure how she feel about it.... She and Sister S were in a trio in the MTC and their other comp will be training this transfer as well! How crazy is that?! So that means that for all 3 of them this is their last area. When they finish training in 11 weeks they get on a plane and go home! (Oh yeah, the transfer after this one is weird because 12 weeks from tomorrow is Christmas. so instead of a 6 week transfer we will have a 5 week, then a 7 week. That is going to be super weird!)

Anyway, Sister S and I are super sad to be splitting. We have really connected well, and have had NO problems. And 6 weeks really isn't long enough to get to know someone! I mean it is, but at the same time, its not enough time to really super open up to someone, and connect on a super deep level of trust.... :_(   Life goes on. And there is always after the mission.

Moving on!

So I don't know how many of you saw (or care) but the Indiana, Indianapolis temple's ground was broken this past weekend!!! Construction has officially begun!!!! We are all so excited! We know we won't be around when it is finished, however we will all be back for the dedication approximately 2 years from now! PS, Mom, you are hereby expected to and volunteered to pull stings to get me a ticket to that dedication!! So you can't say you haven't been warned!

General Relief Society Broadcast was amazing! We had the greatest time! We love the new Presidency! And while we will always have a special place in our hearts for Sister Beck, it is amazing how our Heavenly Father speaks through the Spirit to our hearts about his called and chosen! This is going to be a great change!

Well I love you all, but daylight is burning, and I still haven't started packing yet! Have a great week! I will let you know my new address next Monday! Until then you have the mission office address, (although that takes longer to get to me than just waiting an extra week.)

Love ya!

Week 6 -- 24 September 2012

I know what you're thinking! "Weren't we just at week 6?" Well, you are right. We were just at Week 6. Only that Week 6 was in North Vernon. Now we are in Lafayette, and we are now starting Week 6!!!!! WHAT?! How!? Sister Stanford and I also found out (from a very reliable source) that 5, that's right, 5 new Sisters will be entering the Indiana, Indianapolis Mission next Tuesday night. Do you know what the means? Well, I will tell you. It means that every Sister, but 2, in the Indiana, Indianapolis Mission will either be training, or being trained. That is right. 18 Sisters. 9 Companionship's. 8 in some form of training.

So, "What," you ask, "does this mean for you Sister Hill?"

Well, let me tell you. Sister Stanford thinks that she is not staying in Lafayette any longer than next week, and she says she is sure that I will be training one of the new sisters.....

AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I will let you know what happens next Monday.

So this past week. :) Monday, we had a lesson with a woman who is amazing!!! We have met with her 4 or 5 times, and every time we meet, she has been on her computer reading anti to us, and asking what exactly we believe. Sister Stanford and I have loved this opportunity to strengthen our testimonies. (I am NOT saying go read anti just so you can strengthen your testimonies. DON'T!!!!) The reason it has helped us is because it was not done in a contentious way. She was/is genuinely curious, and by her asking, we have had the opportunity to answer (and laugh at) some of the ridiculous things people are saying about "Mormons"

A common phrase that is said when we get in the car is: "Satan is good!!!.... God is Greater!!!!" It is amazing to us how good satan is! He truly hates this world, and wants to bring down everyone in it!

Well, so Monday night we had a lesson with her, and we felt differently going into this lesson. We felt like we should share the Restoration with her. We felt like we had established our relationship with her, and that now she trusted us, and knew that we weren't crazy cult members, and that what we had might just be true. So we went in and shared it with her, and then asked: "Why do you allow us to keep coming back?"

....

"I don't know. But I think you have something I want. I feel like what you are saying might be true."

Oh my goodness, that was one of the most powerful lessons I have ever had!!!! The Spirit was absolutely tangible! Sister Stanford and I walked out saying: "This is why we are here. Because this is true, and there are those all around us that are just waiting to hear the truth, and come closer to Jesus Christ!!!"

Life sucks sometimes, and satan is good....But. God. Is. GREATER!!! Never doubt that. Don't doubt God. Life outside is not worth what you would be giving up inside this gospel. If you are struggling, PLEASE go back to the basics. Read the Book of Mormon every day. Have a conversation with your Father. Have several! He is waiting to hear from us! He wants our happiness, and he knows that this gospel will give it to you!

The Church of Jesus Christ is the Lord's Church on the earth. Christ died for us, and most important....HE LIVES!!!!

Let him help you.

Life Is Good! -- 17 September 2012

I love life in Indiana as a missionary!

"What more can we say than to you hath been said?" :)

Life in Lafayette continues to grow and develop. We got a new ward mission leader yesterday, and we are excited to get to work with him. He says he is ready for a challenge.... (I dont know what you are talking about! I am a little angel!!)

We went on exchanges this week. I got to work with Sister Allen. She has already been out 3 weeks, and is doing SO great! I still feel like a beginner and a novice, and here I was working with someone who really is, but she didn't act like it! I can't wait to work with her more in the future!

Some sad news. We had a sister go home this week. She had some health issues, and couldn't get the help here that she needs, so she went home. She had a really neat experience leaving, though, and I wish her luck in all the endeavors of her life!

Well since we are getting to the library late today, I need to be going!

I love you all! Hope things are going well in your lives!

Love always,
Sister Hill

PS- Can you believe Hermana Scott leaves the MTC this week?

Rockin' Awesome!

Hello from Lafayette, Indiana!

This has been a busy week! Busy, but slow. It seems like it took forever to get to Sunday this week. However, when Sunday did finally get around to coming, we saw miracles!

We had a weird meeting schedule because the priesthood holders all had a special meeting at the Stake center, so we started as a normal day, and then went to Sacrament meeting. At about 10 we had one of our investigators text us and say she was coming to church!!! She is so golden! We found her on our first full day in Lafayette, and she is just amazing! She doesn't have a date yet, but she will soon! She loved church, and was really impressed with everything that was said. She said she really felt the Spirit moving! (This is a big deal, because this is one of the first things she told us she was looking for, (And she has basically grown up pentecostal)) !!!!

On Saturday we had an awesome lesson with a man named Brian. We taught the plan of Salvation and after we had finished the Kingdoms, he was like: "So what's next? That's it? We just sit in the celestial kingdom for eternity?"       !!!!! WHAT?! Nobody asks those questions! They just accept that its heaven and move on! Good thing there is more to the plan just sitting in the celestial kingdom forever. :) He was also at church yesterday!

This area is so ready to just explode, and Sister S. and I can barely keep up! The ward is wonderful, and keeps us busy. We almost have a new Ward Mission Leader called, and that will be nice. (Our old one, got put into the bishopric on our first Sunday, and has been playing double duty. Poor guy)

Well I love you all! I am about out of time! Thank you for your love, prayers, and letters! Be all the B's!

Love always!

Lafayette, Indiana -- 4 September 2012

I love it here!

"That's all I have to say abou' that."

No, Joke. I have more to say!

Lafayette is so great! I am serving in the Lafayette 3rd ward. They are wonderful people, and really have a grasp on what members and missionary work should be like! So great! They give us all kinds of things to do, we almost don't have our own time to go out and find for ourselves which is amazing! However we still managed to find 4 new investigators the first 4 days we were here, which was AMAZING!!!! God has so prepared this area, and we are working hard to "harvest it"!!!

Sister Stanford is so cute! I just love being her compainon. She takes good care of me, and I am trying my best to be just as good for her. We have 13 people in our district, which is HUGE! That is the size of most Zones! 5 Sisters, 6 Elders, and 1 Senior couple. Speaking of: Mama-sita, The senior couple, their last name is Whiting. They said their son Kevin Whiting worked for Physical Facilities about 3 years ago, and is now in the Dominican Republic. Small world? Did you/ Do you know him?

I am about out of time, I love you all! Sorry so short, but know that I am well, and taken care of by many. I sent my list of things I need to you in the mail today, so you should have it soon! Loves and Hugs!

I Am In... -- 27 August 2012

Lafayette!!!

We live about 25 minutes from the Purdue campus. Lafayette is beautiful! My comp is Sister S. We have been double transferred in and also are white washing the area. (For those who don't speak missionary: The Elders were taken out, and Sister S. and I were put in, and told to get to work!) We are having a lot of fun trying to find everything, and getting to know the investigators and the ward! We have been so blessed and see miracles every day!
The ward is amazing! They know how to do missionary work! Already they are the ones setting up our schedule! Setting up less-actives for us to go see, helping us with our investigators, feeding us! They are wonderful, amazing people, and I can't wait to see how this next 6 weeks go!

Sister  S. is from Fullerton, CA. She went to BYU. She has one older sister, and two younger brothers. One of them is one day younger than Ash. (We were thinking of hooking your two up so that we can be sis-in-law through marriage!) :)

I love you all! I am safe! We have no time on the computers, and I still have to e-mail Pres. C.! I love you!

Transfers -- Monday, 20 August 2012

Well, it is official. I am leaving North Vernon. So when you send your letters this week, either send to the mission office:

1980 E 116th St, STE #200
Carmel, IN 46032

or wait until next Monday when I can get you my new address.

Actually while I am so sad to leave North Vernon, I am excited/nervous to start a new adventure! Sister Castleton is staying here in North Vernon and training one of the new Sisters coming in! (Honestly, I am glad I am not her right now. Training is super stressful, and I think I am way too selfish to do it!)

So moving on from that, I have a funny story! Yesterday in sacrament meeting, we had a couple giving their "farewell" talk. One of their daughters and her two children came to visit our ward. (They just moved out last month so we knew them and were excited to see them again.) Half-way through Sister Miller's talk, the little boy had been out in the foyer, and he came in the back door and walked right past us without pants or a diaper on! He walked up the aisle without a care in the world! When Sister Miller saw him she stopped cold, pointed at him and looked straight over at her daughter, like "WHAT IS HE DOING!?!?!" The whole congregation was busting a side trying to not laugh right out loud at this little boy's bum hanging out under his shirt! It was the most eventful sacrament meeting I have ever been in. It was super great!

We also stopped and talked to a couple of guys yesterday.  After we were talking for a few seconds we realized they were pretty drunk. Then they had another friend show up who was WASTED! It was interesting trying to talk to them after that. So we left. Hopefully there were seeds planted.

All in all we had an.....eventful Sunday. But you just can't beat the Sabbath day! Our lesson in Relief Society was on Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy and how we can better do that. I sat there thinking: "Sunday is just like every other day, if not 10 times more busy!  How can we keep it holy?" Then I thought about something I have heard several times:  every day is the sabbath as a missionary, because we are dedicated to doing the Lord's work 24/7 for 18 months. That really helped. However yesterday, all I wanted to do was curl up on your bed and play Othello with Daddy. :) Until I can do that, though, we went out to work, and it ended up being a really good day!

So here is your "writing prompt" for this week: What do you do to Keep the Sabbath Day Holy? What can you re-commit to doing to make it truly the Lords day?

I love you all! Talk to you next week from......?

What A Week! -- 13 August 2012

So, on Saturday night (about 8:45) I went out to the mailbox, as it had not been checked for 2 days. Best. Mail-Day. Ever! 5 letters, all for me! One from Mom, Grandma Hill, Grandma Fish, My Bestest Friend Brittany (finally!), and one from her cousin, Elder Cosper! Letters from most of my favorite people! (You others already know who you are, (Landon)) Anyway, it was a great surprise!

This week has been really great!

Monday: We did a super deep clean of our apartment, because we have a little roommate that we didn't invite. When we went out shopping, we also bought a sticky trap to catch this little roommate. We also did a few outside jobs that we have been neglecting. My job was to weed. You know how I LOVE that job. I actually got a pretty blister on the side of my pointer finger, because several of those things did not want to come out of the ground! It was really satisfying to see what our driveway looked like when I was done, though.

We had dinner with Bishop Klingler and his great family that night, then they were doing several projects around the house that he got the whole family working on that day. It reminded me so much of Mom, when you finally get fed up with the house and the yard, and you wake us up ridiclously early for a Saturday, and demand that we spend an hour outside (you know what your grandma would say...)  Then we have to come in, pick up all of our poop, and then don't leave our rooms until they are spotless, which usually took until about 5.  Then we would have Arctic for dinner, and go see a movie.

So now that I have rambled for so long... We went and had a lesson, bringing one of his daughters with us.  When we got back, we pitched in and helped as much as we could before we had to go home for the night.

Jumping to Friday: Zone Conference! I think some of my fondest memeories of my mission will be when any part of the mission has gathered together to learn from one another, President and Sister Collins, and an Apostle. That's right! We had another Apostle visit and teach us. (Sister C. says I must be really naughty: The First Presidency has to keep sending apostles to check on me!) Elder Golden from the 70, and his wife came and taught us. It was super neat!

After Conference we went on exchanges! Yay for exchanges! I got to go to Bloomington for 24 hours with Sisters D. and E.! They are most fantastic Sisters and it was such a priveledge to work and learn from them! Sister D. has grown so much since the MTC! Of course she was trained by "The-Energizer-Bunny"  And Sister E. is just fantastic! She has also been comps with Sister C., so she wanted to know everything about how she/we are doing. So many things learned that I love implementing in our work!

So, I have a few comments and questions from the letters I received.

Mom: Is the Grand Caynon trip open to all, or is it just an anniversary trip?

Grandma Fish: I AM being well looked after! I have absolutly ZERO complaints about this North Vernon Ward! They are super fantastic! I will be sad to leave when that day comes.

Oh! Story along great ward lines!

Yesterday, we had dinner at the Klinglers (again), and this time we had an investigator couple (the Polleys) come with us. Two of our ward missionaries are the bishop's twin daughters who are here for the summer, and both of them have been awsome about coming with us to this couple's home. A few weeks ago we had dinner at the Polleys' home, so this time we asked the Klinglers to host. Bishop and Sister Klingler clicked SO well with them! Dinner lasted forever because everyone was talking and laughing so long! Then we had a lesson on the temples. We watched the movie the church put together, Between Heaven and Earth.  AMAZING!!!! You could just see Brother Polley's wheels turning in his head! Something clicked last night! They are both so close, yet so far away! I think they can see how close they are getting, and are getting a little nervous about what it means IF what we are teaching is true! AHHH!!!! So cool! I love missionary work!

I love you all at home, but I don't ever want to do anything else! (You may not see me again ;) )

Well family, I am out of time! I love you so much, and can't wait to hear from you again! Remember to pray for missionary opportunities! (You might even go visit the Montgomery's.  They might have something you can help with!)

Loves!

I love you!

Letter -- 6 August 2012

Taylor has been on my mind all week. First I was thinking, "he is going to be set apart soon". Then "Oh my goodness he has been in the MTC for 24 hours already! How is he doing? What is he doing?! I am just positive he is loving every minute!"

I kinda felt bad that I didn't have a letter to him on his first day there, I know how much I love letters, but he is probably so caught up in the work that he could care less. I also realized that NOBODY has given me his address yet..............GUILT!................(but I don't say a word, not one word! (Name it!))

This has been a really good week in North Vernon. We have been on the bikes this week. Mom, remember when we started biking, and we would get off, and comment on how something needed to be added to the bike to make for a not so sore ride. Yeah... But it has been fun. It is a lot more fun than walking; however, on Saturday we biked, and it was SO humid!!!! I finally experienced Indiana "regular weather." I could barely breathe, and I was soaking after 2 minutes. We tracted for a little while then drove to CSL and biked around there trying some potentials and less-active members, then we had a lesson with one of our recent converts, and as we were sitting in their house, they had the AC going and because I was soaking wet I was shivering! Both Sister Castleton and I were sitting there thinking: "We hope we don't get pneumonia!" But it was fun.

We have a couple baptisms scheduled in the next few weeks. We are not really sure if either are going to be able to happen because of a couple things, but they are so close that it would be a bummer for them not to make it now. But in the Lord's time and in His way.

Can you believe transfers are coming up again? I am not sure what I want to happen. I love North Vernon, but I keep thinking that there is more I can learn in other places. Maybe that is my challenge, I need to find what I can learn here.

Another thing that I am really looking forward to is that General Conference is at the end of this next transfer! And because it is October, that also means its the General Relief Society session! Cant wait! Isn't that nuts that conference is in about 8 weeks?! Where did the time go?

We have another busy week ahead of us: Zone Conference is on Friday, and we will be going on exchanges Friday night to Saturday night! I love exchanges! This time I get to go up to Bloomington and stay with Sister Elmer and Sister Donaldson. Sister Castleton is staying here and Sister Berrett is going to be her Comp. I am excited to work in a trio for a day, to see what that is like. Plus Sister Elmer and I got a chance to get to know one another a little bit at Sisters training, and found out that we are kindred spirits! And I will get to work with Sister Donaldson again! This is going to be a good weekend!

Well that is it for now, we have a lot to do today to prepare for the rest of the week! (Hence why it is call "Preparation" Day. It does not say lazy day.)

I love you all! M&D Happy Anniversary! I love you so much! Thank you for honoring your temple covenants, and for choosing me as your daughter in the pre-mortal life! I love you!

Growth & Humility

Lots of growth going on this week. And sometimes humble pie doesn't taste very good. But life goes on, we learn and grow, and we try again.

One of my favorite things that I have studied here in the mission field is Joy.  What is it about joy that is so wonderful? What is joy verses happiness? How do we achieve joy? I have found some of my own answers, but I am interested in hearing your thoughts and feelings.

Thank you for this week's letters; every single one of them has been exactly what I needed to hear! I love you all and hope you are doing well! Have a great week!

I Just Know I Am Hungry...AW DA TIME!!

We had a WONDERFUL Special Sisters Conference this past week! I felt so blessed to have the opportunity to serve with the wonderful sisters in this mission. We are also VERY WELL taken care of by our wonderful mission president and his amazing wife! Our assistants to President are pretty great too!

We were so spiritually and temporally well fed! We got there and had a testimony meeting, and then had time to get to know one another and ice cream. It was then time for bed, so we had "family" prayer (can I say again how much I love President Collins!) He and the assitants then left so that we could shower and change and make our beds (you know those mattresses that Gma & Gpa Fish have? ya those) and all that jazz. I ended up massaging several of the sisters, including both of my previous comps! <3

It was so much fun to catch up with both of them! Sister Williams is training again! How great is she?! And Sister Donaldson is doing just great and had wonderful words of encouragement! They both filled me in on their family (especially their missionary brothers) and I did the same thing. (We all just love you guys so much! Most especially those elders!)

After a while of laughing and catching up and the beds set up and showers taken, Sister Collins came down and said that she had had the word from The-Man-Upstairs that it was time to go to bed so we would be awake and alert for training the next day. So at 12:30 the lights finally went out and we laid down to go to bed. :) It was still 10:30 in Utah, so we weren't being disobedient. ;p

The alarm went off way too early! But we got up, those who didn't shower the night before got up and showered, the rest of us got ready, and went upstairs to see what we could do to help with breakfast. We had a lot of leftover, cause Sister Collins is used to cooking for elders. Elders eat a lot. Sisters, not so much. :)

After breakfast was cleaned up, we started training.  You would not believe the Spirit that was there. I am surrounded by some amazing sisters in this here mission! (Best mission in the world!!!! ps). It was like a physical wall that went up and kept Satan and his angels out and invited our Heavenly Father's spirit in. I came out of that conference so extremely full, I could not believe it!

The rest of the week has been kind of dull compared to that. Not that awesome things didn't happen! They did! But there is just something about gathering with other missionaries in prayer and learning of spiritual things!

I am telling you, everybody who is anybody comes to Indiana on their mission! Have I mentioned that it is the best mission in the world?!

I love you all! Hope you had a good laugh and hope you are doing well! I love you!

Couple Things -- 23 July 2012

So I am getting a lot of pressure :) from certain people who think it's my job to teach those who we can get to come to church :) that I need my Gospel Principles manual. Crazy that we would be teaching them the basics! So if that could get sent to me that would be great!

Also, have you found any great Plan of Salvation pictures that I could color?

In your next letter could you add Tay's MTC and Mission office address? Please?

Also, everyone keeps talking about Sassy's cute hair, but I have yet to see it for myself! Hello! Pictures please!

Now:
Funny story:
We were at one of my favorite ward members homes for FHE and one of the girls is 11 and really good at it. She could almost give Landon lessons. In fact we were sitting there and I realized that her name had become a swear word. EVERYONE was saying it! :)

Savanah, stop!
Savanah, quit!
SAVANAH! Knock it off!
Savanah, it doesn't matter!

I started laughing, and everyone thought I was a little crazy but all I could her was your voice: Land-in!

So there is my funny story! I love you! Hope you had/have a good week!
-Sister Hill

PS- I love you!
PPS - The letter you sent with Jack's Observation got to me today. So I don't know when you sent it, but that gives you a time table of how long things take to get to me. I love you (again/still).

What a Week! -- 16 July 2012

AWESOME week here in North Vernon! First big news, last week we had a really tough time meeting our goals. In fact we didn't. At all. So this week we made a goal to remember our goals, and this week... We blew it up!!! Smashed those goals to pieces! Woot! Woot!! We committed 2 different people to a baptism date in August! Got several new investigators! Had 9 lessons with a member! So like I said: AWESOME!

Tomorrow we are headed up to Fishers for a Sisters Conference! So excited about that!

I know it is short, but I have to be going! I love you all! The gospel is true! Have a good week!

Letter -- 4 July 2012

Dearest familia!

So in my email, I said I had a list of stuff to say.  It's not so much a list, as notes I take when I am trying to fall asleep.

So the first thing is that every night I say:  "Good night!" to Sister C., who then responds: "Sleep tight."  Sometimes I say: "Don't let the bedbugs bite!" and then she says:"If they do, hug 'em real tight!"

Anyway it's had me thinking about all our little sayings we used to do.  You know when we went to bed before you did ;) (most of the time ;)).  Well, the one that has been stuck in my brain is: "Angels on your pillows!"

I loved that bedtime routine.  I remember being so sad when tucking in and waking up in the morning changed as we got older.  I knew as long as I was tucked in, or I heard Mom's voice, or Dad was squeezing my toes, I was safe.  I was still at home in bed, and that I would be okay.

One of my more recent memories that is a favorite is the night I came home late from Logan, and nobody knew I was coming, but I grabbed my mattress, and fell asleep on the living room floor.  Next thing I know, Mom is 1,000 kissing me softly and gently like she could do it forever.  I knew I was home, loved, safe, and always welcome.  And I am so grateful for that.  Not everybody has that and I want you to know that I love you too!

The second thing on my random thoughts list is a question for Daddy:  What more can I do to help my feet?  I use the lax ball every night and morning.  I am leaning into the cabinet when I brush my teeth, and I am stretching my I.T. band, but my feet are still plantar fascitis sore in the morning.  So is there anything else I can do to help?  Just keep doing what I am doing?  I did some tapotement earlier this week, and that helped.  Should I be doing that more regularly?  Anything else?  Any other suggestions?  Thanks!

So baptism story!  I think I told you that we filled the font, and it was too hot.  That was funny.  People were making jokes that that wasn't the baptism by fire yet.  :)  They are a really sweet family.  The wife is a member, and kinda less active, but SUPER sweet lady!  Anyway they brought a ton of food afterward, and it was so nice.  Brother F. invited his sister and her grandkids and his niece.  The niece is really interested and we have an appointment with her tomorrow.

Sunday was an amazing day!  When they confirmed him, I suddenly realized that it has been one year exactly since I decided to serve a mission!  I decided to serve the first Sunday in July, 2011.  How crazy is that?!  Again, I felt so loved when I came home and told y'all.  (Sorry, Tay, if I stole your thunder!)  Crazy how time flies!  One year seems like a long time, but I will be home before you even have time to blink!

My other question is: How is Sister C. doing?  She has been on my mind a lot this week.  I hope she is doing well.  Any other development with Grandpa A.?  Are Grandmas still doing o.k.?

You all are always in my prayers!  I love you so much!  Walk Doofy for me!

Love always,

Sister Hill

P.S.  Transfers are the 11th.  I will know IF I am leaving on Monday the 9th.  I won't actually know where I will go (if I go) until the 11th.  Just F.Y.I.  Love ya!
